FAQ - VentSTOP Frequently Asked Questions

Question:
How do I properly measure my vents for VentSTOP?
Answer:
Simply measure outermost edge-to-outermost edge (where the vent meets the ceiling, floor or wall).  For rectangular vents, be sure to measure both length and width.

Question:
Does the Velcro remain on the vent during the cooling (spring/summer) months?
Answer:
Yes.  Only the hook (hard side) of the Velcro remains on the vent at all times.  The loop (soft side) of the Velcro is on the cover, allowing easy rolling/storage of the cover when not in use.

Question:
Can I use VentSTOP to block vents in UNUSED rooms?
Answer:
We recommend AGAINST covering vents when a cooling or heating system is active. A common thought is doing this saves energy and money, when actually, the opposite is true.  Covering active vents restricts the blower/air handler from working the way it was designed to, as it was sized for your system.  This, in turn, actually causes your machine to work harder due to the increased pressure, using more energy and causing greater wear.  You CAN, however only attach 2-3 sides of your VentSTOP vent cover for use an as air deflector/re-director.

Question:
What color is the VentSTOP vent cover?
Answer:
VentSTOP is white on the side that faces out (the side you see).  The side that faces the vent and duct work is silver foil to provide a true thermal break.

Question:
What color is the Velcro?
Answer:
We use white Velcro.

Question:
Does the Velcro go all the way around the vent edge?
Answer:
Yes.  The hook (hard side) of the Velcro should be butted together at the corner.  The more care taken during installation, the better the closure of the vent and the better the results.

Question:
Can round vents be covered?
Answer:
The only way to cover round vents is by ordering a larger-sized, square VentSTOP cover and adhering directly to the area around the vent (on the ceiling).  Care must be used when removing the cover!
